In order to apply for a transit visa, you must prove that you have sufficient financial savings to be used in your travel, that you intend to transit to another country through England / The United Kingdom, and that you can enter the country you want to go to.
If You Are Transferring
If you have a connecting flight in England / The United Kingdom and you are not going to pass through border control, you can apply for a Direct Airside Transit Visa (DATV). DATV is valid for 24 hours. You cannot apply for this visa if you have to go through border control.
If You're Leaving the Airport
If you are going to go through a border control in England / The United Kingdom but you are going to travel to another country within 48 hours and you will not be working or studying in England / The United Kingdom during your stay, then the visa type you need to apply for is England / The United Kingdom transit visa. You can apply for a long-term England / The United Kingdom transit visa if you can prove that you need to travel to England / The United Kingdom frequently over a long period of time. With a long-term transit visa, you can stay in England / The United Kingdom for a maximum of 48 hours on each travel.
To apply for England / The United Kingdom Transit Visa, you must complete the online form completely and accurately and then make an appointment with the authorized visa application centre. After your application is completed, you must be at the authorized application center on the date and time of your appointment. The appointment is for taking your biometric information (fingerprint and face photo).
